Le Corbusier was the pioneer of modern architecture. Born today in 1865, STYLE NV pays homage to his life.

1865 - Charles Edouard-Jeanneret-Gris was born today, October 6th, in La Chaux-de-Fronds, a small city in the north west of Switzerland
1900 - Attends La Chaux-de-Fronds art school where he studies under the architect Rene Chapallaz
1907 - Travels to Paris where he is employed by Auguste Perret, the French Pioneer of reinforced concrete, to work in his office
1908 - Studies architecture in Vienna with Josef Hoffman
1910- 1911 Works for the German architect, Peter Behrans
1911 -  Travelled around Europe to the Balkans, Greece and Turkey
1914 -1917 During World War I, Returns to his home town, La Chaux-de -Fronds to teach at his old Art School
1917 - Returns to Paris and meets the painter and designer, Amédéé Ozenfant with whom he develops the art movement Purism, an aesthetic that uses simple geometric forms
1920 -  Adopts the pseudonym, Le Corbusier, an altered form of his grandfather's name, Lecorbusier
1920 - Amédéé and Le Corbusier launch the magazine L'Espirit Nouveau, that looked at Purism and functionalism in architecture and city planning
1922  - Sets up a studio with his cousin, the architect, Pierre Jeanneret to continue his developments in Purist design
1922 - Exhibits The Citrohan House project at the Salon D'Automne which includes his five characteristics of modern architecture - open floor plan, roof terrace, strip windows and decoration free.
1927 -Submits design proposal for the newly constituted League of Nations centre in Geneva. It was rejected, but such was the scandal that the rejection bought Le Corbusier great notoriety and his design were later used for all the League of Nations
1928 - Experiments with the architect Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret to design furniture.
1929 - Exhibits his first line of furniture at the Salon D'Automne, LC1, LC2, LC3 and LC4 (now manufactured and licenced to Cassina S.p.A)
1930 - Marries the dressmaker and fashion model, Yvonne Gallis
1930 - Becomes a French citizen
1931 - Designs the Swiss Building at the Cité Universitaire
1945  - Ends his twenty year collaboration with his cousin, as Pierre signs up for the French Resistance
1946 - After World War II, Le Corbusier is invited by the French government to design a large scale housing project in Marseille, The Unite d'Habitation building had 18 floors, housing 1800 people and incorporated, shops, a school and a open air theatre.
1950 - Reunites with Pierre Jeanneret to design the Punjabi government building the Palace of Justice and the Palace of Assembly in Chandigarh, India.
1965 -  Takes a swim in the Mediterranean Sea and never returns. He body is found by bathers and it is assumed he suffered a heart attack whilst out swimming.  He was buried in Roquebrune, next to his wife.
